Here is What You Need to Know About ADA Parking Spot Requirements:How Many ADA Parking Spots Are Required?
Sizes and Placement of Accessible Spaces
The number of accessible parking spaces needed depends on the total number of spaces that the parking lot has. Additionally, one out of six handicapped parking spaces should be van accessible. For instance, a parking lot with a total of 200 spaces requires six handicapped spaces, one of them being van accessible.
Accessible parking spaces must have a minimum width of 8 feet. Handicapped spaces have the shortest direct route to the building. Here, curbs should have a ramp and must not intrude into the parking space or access aisle. If it goes through any crosswalk paths it should be marked. Accessible Parking Sign Requirements
Signs must be placed at least 60 inches above the ground so that they are not covered by parked vehicles. Also, signs need to be visible from the driver’s side of the car and positioned at the side of the parking lot.
